Winkler’s T4G Run began in 2006 by a group of passionate runners who wanted to make a difference in the community while doing what they loved. It is held annually on the Saturday morning of Thanksgiving weekend.
Each year, this run has helped the Winkler and District food cupboard meet the needs of the community. In order to continue providing food to those in need, it takes a great amount of organization, volunteers, community support and, of course, runners!
The Thanks for Giving Run offers something for everyone with a half marathon (21.1K), 10K, 5K, and a 1.2K kids fun run! Winkler welcomes runners from throughout our province, the U.S, and as far as British Columbia. We are pleased to be a part of a growing runners’ circle and we invite you to jump on board too!
Winkler’s Thanks for Giving Run is proud to support the Winkler & District Food Cupboard.
The original purpose of the cupboard was to help the many needy immigrant families arriving in our area with practically nothing. Those without a job, a home, or anything to start off with could find help for a few weeks until they got on their feet.
Today the Cupboard continues to help new families but also acts as a safety net for those families just trying to keep their heads above water as they struggle with unemployment, low paying jobs, or large families. The food cupboard assists an average of 30 clients, or families, per week. Between 50 to 100 pounds of food is distributed to clients each week, depending on the size of the family.
Monetary donations to the Cupboard are tax deductible. The Winkler & District Food Cupboard is located in the Central Station Community Centre at 545 Industrial Drive.
